Turbidity

Phone-based environmental screening for water cloudiness and suspended material.

Why this is useful

Professional field turbidity meters can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars and may be difficult to deploy widely. EcoExposure is developing a phone-based option using standardized photographs.

Accessible screening may help remote and resource-limited communities document changing water conditions after storms, runoff, erosion, flooding or wastewater releases and identify locations needing further investigation.

Potential applications

Stormwater, agricultural runoff, irrigation water, surface water and wastewater monitoring.
